A Panel discussion will take place regarding the history of women voting in Amherst County to accompany the Exhibit “Women Making a Difference in Amherst County 1920-2020.” The panel will be chaired by Marcia Robertson, PhD. Speakers on the panel are Ted Delaney, Executive Director of the Lynchburg Museum System; Diane Shields, Chair of the Monacan Indian Foundation Cultural Foundation; Gloria Witt, Chair of the Amherst County NAACP; and Joanna Harris, MD, longtime officer of the Lynchburg League of Woman Voters. Discussion will include reasons why women did or did not vote from 1920 to 2020. AGAR will show their video about women in Amherst County who changed Amherst for the better, including passages of interviews from Rev. Phyllis Hicks, Pastor Margaret Nelson, teachers Edith Jones, Clara Jackson, Betty Wimer and Alma Rountrey; civil rights advocates Lena Sandidge and Mabel Hughes, and school principals Louise McCord Faulconer and Barbara Hutcherson Parks. Masks, socially distanced seating and reservations required.
