TSB JAZZ: A NEW NAME FOR A FAVORITE TRIO
Lew Taylor, keyboardist and vocalist; Larry Scott, drummer; and Bob Bowen, bassist, have recently renamed themselves as TSB (Taylor, Scott and Bowen). They have been a popular jazz trio in the Greater Lynchburg area for 20 years under the name Lew Taylor Jazz Trio.
Lew Taylor has been playing with Larry Scott on an off for the past 54 years. “When you perform with someone that long, it’s like like mindreading,” says Lew Taylor. “When I start a phrase, Larry knows what I am doing, and can improvise instantly. Larry knows who I am musically I don’t have to work to have Larry fit with the way that I play. I met Bob Bowen almost 20 years ago and we’ve been playing together often ever since. Bob is the perfect complement to both Larry and me. Bob Intuitively understands what he needs to play where to enhance my playing. I love playing with both these guys, and they are my first call guys whenever I get a call –I feel blessed to be able to play with these musicians. We try to be available whenever the opportunity for this trio comes up!”
AGAR and Lew Taylor are taking this opportunity to congratulated Second Stage | Amherst on their 10th anniversary. AGAR and the trio first worked together when AGAR was conducting a series of arts events connected with an NEA/BIG READ grant in 2014 centered on Zora Neale Hurston’s Book “Their Eyes Were Watching God.” When AGAR began presenting Java & Jazz with Second Stage, AGAR called Lew Tew Taylor; the group have become J&J favorites. The feeling is mutual as Lew said, “Second Stage is one of our favorite places to play.”
